Barney

Sadly, Barney is completely unable to hear us due to an incredibly severe case of auricular haematoma, also known as “cauliflower ear”.

This is genuinely one of the worst cases both ourselves and our vets have ever seen. The damage fills Barneys entire ears, leaving him unable to hear and until his vets are able to operate, we don’t yet know the full extent of the damage underneath.

As well as taking away his hearing, Barneys ears are incredibly painful and uncomfortable for him. He currently has to wear a cone 24/7 and suffers from constant yeast infections, adding even more irritation and discomfort to something he is already having to live with every single day.

We have tried everything we can to avoid surgery. Barney has had multiple courses of antibiotics and steroids in an attempt to settle his ears and keep him comfortable but sadly his condition is simply too severe and too far gone for medication to fix.

Surgery is now Barneys last option.

Our vets have quoted approximately £1,200 per ear and unfortunately both ears need treatment as soon as possible. Barney will also be neutered as part of getting him ready for the next chapter of his life.

Our biggest priority is finally getting this gorgeous boy comfortable and allowing him to live without the constant pain and irritation he has become so used to. We’re also desperately hoping that treatment may restore some level of hearing for him, although at this stage there are sadly no guarantees.

With both ears requiring surgery, we have another huge veterinary bill ahead of us but we desperately want to give Barney the treatment and chance he deserves.
